OUR STORY

North East Cycling Academy was founded by Adam Brooks, whose vision was to use cycling as a powerful tool for community development, performance progression, and positive change.
Having worked for British Cycling for over 5 years, Adam saw firsthand the impact that accessible cycling opportunities could have in local communities. He went on to found Manilla Cycling Club in Hartlepool, which quickly grew into one of the most professional and successful youth cycling clubs in the North East.
With over 20 years of experience in sports development and coaching, spanning both grassroots and elite levels in football and cycling, Adam has brought his expertise and passion together to build a platform that helps young people thrive through sport.
In recent years, this vision has evolved into a larger and more ambitious project under the banner of NE Cycling CIC – the not-for-profit community interest company that now manages the Academy and runs the Middlesbrough Velodrome.
Today, Adam is joined by partners Dave Judge and Paul Daly. Together, they lead NE Cycling CIC with a shared mission: to grow the sport of cycling across all communities in the North East, make cycling more inclusive and accessible, and develop a clear pathway from grassroots to elite level.
We are proud to manage the Middlesbrough Velodrome, which is the heart of our activities – from Learn to Ride sessions to advanced track training and national-level development programs.
